I am an interdisciplinary social scientist. Throughout my career I have focused on controversies and change within agricultural systems and environmental governance. I am an independent researcher and associate researcher at the James Hutton Institute, where I worked for 9 years. I use qualitative methods including interviewing, focus groups and participant observation as well as quantitative survey methods.

I held a British Academy Postdoctoral fellowship from 2018-2021 entitled ‘Cows eat grass, don’t they?’ exploring the role of grass and grazing in dairy systems in the UK and Ireland.

You can see a list of my research publications here.

I have worked as a funding proposal reviewer for the Irish Department of Food, Agriculture and the Marine, the British Academy, the Danish International Centre for Research in Organic Food and the Research Council of Norway. I am currently employed as an expert contributor with the European Food Safety Authority. I have acted as an external examiner on 4 PhD theses. I am open to work in these areas and to supervising and examining postdoctoral students.
